Change is Slower than a Heartbeat collects twenty-one pieces of short fiction and eight essays. Curated from published and unpublished work written between 2014 and 2021, it reflects the writer's literary journey through that period of time. Change is Slower than a Heartbeat is a meditation on both personal and world events.

"Gothard navigates the battlefield of his human dramas with finesse, never straying into cliché or unsavoury cynicism, which he so easily could have done. His dismantling of the human psyche is deft, and never laboured." - Claire Meadows, Founder of After Nyne Magazine
"Gothard has Siri Hustvedt's exquisite gift for characterisation, and he deftly navigates the reader through the myriad treasures and pains that result from intimacy. Certain set pieces have a clarity and insight that are thrilling." - Guy Mankowski, bestselling author of ‘Dead Rock Stars' and 'Albion's Secret History'
"Daniel Gothard paints an honest, raw picture of the way adult relationships both begin and end." - Liz Loves Books literary blog
